Who is Southern, Sassy & Frassy?

"Shall we begin like David Copperfield? 'I am born...I grew up.' Or shall we begin when I was born to darkness, as I call it?" Oh wait, that's a direct quote from Interview with a Vampire which I've watched like 20 times in the past month because I live on a farm now.

Ok, ok. Seriously though. I am finally breaking down after much prodding from friends and co-workers to write a blog about my life at 35 moving from a medium sized Southern city to a small rural town and living on a farm . . . with cows and chickens.

I guess I should give a little background on my previous life before you can truly understand why moving from a city life to a country life is hilarious to all my friends and co-workers.

I was born in Germany, and grew up in a college town in the South. I attended at private school until 10th grade, with maybe 30 people in my class. I then went on to graduate from a public high school that was 85% black with about 600 people in my graduating class.

In high school, I traveled to Spain, France and England. I went on to attend a major university, while in college I had the privilege of living in Italy for a month during one summer. After my bachelors, I chose to pursue a masters degree. After finishing my masters, I decided to get a doctorate, but I have yet to finish it. During my graduate studies, I had the chance to complete research on Albanian culture and politics, and lived in the country for a month (If you get the chance to go to Albania, I highly recommend it because it's the Mexico of Europe. A.K.A. Really cheap). After graduate school, I moved to a major southern city and lived there for five years until my ex-husband and I decided to move closer to home again.

I'm not telling this to impress you with my travels or education, but more to impress upon you the different cultures and people I have met in my life. I'm pretty well rounded in that area. I can drink a beer on a tailgate. I can break it down with the black folk. I can dress up and have an educated conversation. I'm a chameleon of sorts melting into the culture and learning new things and having different experiences. I would have to say meeting new people from different cultures is one of my favorite things because learning about other people and cultures make me a better person.

Ok, enough with the being a better person crap. Here's a snapshot of what I'm like when I visit friends in the city & take a wild guess which one I am:

After getting a divorce, I had lots of interesting dates, but ended up falling for a country boy who has literally never lived more than five minutes away from his parents. This totally blows my mind sometimes when I think about it, so I try not to think about it too much otherwise I might end up as dumb as the cattle in the pasture. By the way, cattle aren't smart.

Here is a photo of our cattle just for fun:

Well, this concludes my first blog post. Tune in tomorrow when I tell you about how I'm DYI-ing my Halloween costume. I've never sewn before really, so this should be a regular riot. But hey, I live in the country now, and country women sew, right?

Here is a video of my Great Dane on my Instagram to entertain you until then:
