It's all Greek to Me

Since I missed being able to visit Greece in 2008, while I was living in Albania with the Grinch who stole nine years of my life, I've been DYING to go!!!! Well, I'm making this happen. September 2019 it is happening. Come hell or high water. I could go this fall, but I've realized I wouldn't be doing it the way I want to do it. I want to go and enjoy every second and not spare any expense. Can you tell I need some time out of Countryville, AL?

With this in mind, the goal of this post is to see how this planning evolves over the next year.

First stop is Athens. Fly into Athens, check into an economical Airbnb, because let's face it I'm not paying high dollar for a hotel room where sleep and shower are the only things I'm doing. Now, this will change when we go island hopping, but Athens is not a place I want to spend money on a hotel room.

Athens is where the Acropolis, Parthenon, and Theater of Dionysus reside. These are just a few of the places I'd like to stop. I found an excellent blog from Travel Passionate about what to do in Athens if you only have three days. Looks like a solid plan, but I bet I will modify it. Score!!! It has a link to a food tour! Bonus, tells you what areas to avoid staying at a hotel in! Knowing what areas to avoid is super important to me because I made a terrible mistake in Naples, Italy one time by staying in the train station palazzo, so having a list of where to avoid is clutch.

While writing this, I did ask for suggestions for my trip on Facebook. I don't do this often because I feel some people ask what type of tissue they should use to wipe their nose; I digress. I received a fantastic list of things to do from a friend, and he suggested that we stay at The Marble House, which looks doable. Clean, safe, economical, and close to major attractions. I still plan on perusing the Airbnb listings though.

In case you hadn't noticed in my last post, I love food. My friend had some great suggestions on where to dine, but I thought, "Hey! You'll be on vacation, so splurge! Look up some Michelin star places." I am going to need to save a ton, but it will be worth it. I found a Michelin star list in Athens and the include, Funky Gourmet, Spondi, Hytra, Botrini's, and Varoulko Seaside. They all look amazing. I think Varoulko Seaside is open for lunch, so maybe we can squeeze in two of these restaurants!!!!!

I haven't even gotten to Santorini & Mykonos yet, but I know I am going to go to at least one of them. I'm leaning toward Santorini for the sunset, the volcano, and then relaxing at the beach.

I forgot the sunsets in Santorini. How did I do that? Look at how gorgeous that is!!!!! It looks like I'm going to be diving into Santorini Dave's blog to get the scoop on all the islands.

Do you have a favorite adventure, restaurant or hotel you'd like to recommend to me? Shoot me an email! I'd love to hear suggestions!
